“Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be shaken but endures forever.
As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people
both now and forevermore.”
—Psalm 125:1–2 (NIV)
What a comforting image the psalmist gives us—Mount Zion, steadfast and immovable, surrounded by other mountains as a protective embrace. In a world where change is constant and uncertainty often knocks at our door, this passage reminds us of the unshakable security we have when we place our trust in the Lord.
Life brings seasons that feel more like storms than sunshine. Health diagnoses, financial pressures, relationship struggles, or even just the weight of the daily grind can leave us feeling vulnerable. But Psalm 125 gently lifts our gaze. It invites us to picture our lives not as fragile and exposed, but as secure—anchored in God's faithfulness, surrounded by His presence like the mountains around Jerusalem.
Trusting in the Lord doesn’t mean trouble disappears. It means that, through it all, we are not alone. We are upheld by a God who is unchanging and eternal, and who lovingly surrounds us with His protection, peace, and presence.
So let us lean into that trust. Let us remind one another that we are not defined by the chaos around us but by the solid Rock beneath us. As a church, may we be a community that helps each other hold fast—encouraging one another to stand firm, pray faithfully, and walk boldly, knowing we are encircled by His everlasting arms.
With love and grace,
Pastor Jen
