Revealing God's Character Through a Growing Relationship with Jesus

Reality Check: Who He Is

“For everyone who asks receives.  Everyone who seeks, finds.  And the door is opened to everyone who knocks.” Matthew 7:8

As of late I can testify that the above verse is true.  Not because I have gotten what I have asked for; I didn’t.  Not because I found what I was looking for, because I haven’t.  Nor because every door I have knocked on has opened - it sure hasn’t.

What makes this verse true is based on WHO Christ is.  Jesus is the door and when you knock He WILL open Himself to you.  When I seek Him with my whole heart - I find Him.  And when I ask for Him - He always gives Himself.  It is easy to know this in my head, but applying it to my life is different.  I need to abide in Jesus, keeping my mind surrendered to Him unceasingly.  The way I look at God needs to change from the me filter to the Jesus filter.

I want to focus and be intentional about Jesus being my friend.  I have been focusing for far too long on what Jesus can do for my life, for the answers to prayer I see or don’t see.  I believe Jesus is reminding me in this verse that it’s not about what He can do, it’s about Who He Is!  He has given, revealed and opened Himself up to me, and that I am learning is enough.
